Bhubaneswar, Sep 6: In a proud moment for Odisha, seven young athletes—three girls and four boys—have been selected to represent India at the prestigious Asia Rugby Emirates U18 Championship 2025, scheduled to be held in Hohhot, China on September 13–14.

The selected players include Mamali Singh, Anita Murmu, Raimani Murmu, Bidyadhar Majhi, Bharat Kisan, Charan Hembram, and Attma Murmu, all of whom have demonstrated exceptional skill and determination in national-level competitions. Their selection follows an intensive national coaching camp held at the Sports Authority of India’s Netaji Subhas Eastern Centre in Kolkata, where players underwent rigorous training in technical development, physical conditioning, and team cohesion.

Among the boys, Bidyadhar Majhi has been named captain of the U18 Boys team, a testament to his leadership and performance on the field. The girls’ team also features first-time international call-ups, including Anita Murmu and Raimani Murmu, who impressed selectors during the Khelo India Youth Games and Junior National Championships earlier this year.

The Asia Rugby Emirates U18 Championship is a vital stepping stone for young athletes, offering exposure to international competition and a chance to earn future opportunities, including qualification for the Youth Olympic Games 2026.

The Indian squads will face strong contenders, with the boys placed in Pool A alongside Hong Kong China, China, and Qatar, while the girls will compete in Pool D against Malaysia, Japan, and Uzbekistan.
