Key Points

The Orissa High Court has stayed Hockey India’s December 5 elections and suspended a show-cause notice against Hockey Odisha. The interim order came while hearing a petition challenging decisions taken during Hockey India’s Executive Body meeting and a subsequent notice.

Kataka, Nov 6: The Orissa High Court on Friday stayed the Hockey India elections, scheduled to be held on December 5, and also put on hold a show-cause notice issued by the national federation to Hockey Odisha proposing the downgrading of the State body from a permanent member to an associate member, officials said.

The interim order was passed by a single-judge Bench of Justice R.K. Pattnaik while hearing a writ petition filed by the Hockey Association of Odisha.

Petition Challenging Decisions

The petition challenged the minutes of Hockey India's 120th Executive Body meeting held on October 6, as well as the show-cause notice issued on October 7.

According to the petition, the State association questioned the decisions taken by Hockey India and sought judicial intervention against the proposed changes affecting its membership status.

Following the hearing, the High Court issued an interim stay on both the scheduled elections and the show-cause notice.

Final Hearing on December 9

The court has fixed December 9 as the date for the final hearing in the matter.

The development puts the Hockey India electoral process on hold for the time being and provides temporary relief to Hockey Odisha, which had challenged the federation's actions before the High Court.

The outcome of the final hearing is expected to have significant implications for both the conduct of Hockey India elections and the membership status of Hockey Odisha within the national governing body.
