Cuttack, Feb 10: Odisha government will seek an explanation from the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) after a floodlight malfunction disrupted the second ODI between India and England for around 30 minutes at the historic Barabati stadium in Cuttack on Sunday night, State’s Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj said.
Suraj, who was also present along with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and other senior Ministers at the stadium, said, "An explanation will be sought from the OCA over the floodlight glitch. It happened despite taking all precautions and making elaborate prior arrangements by the OCA."
One of the floodlights at the Barabati stadium had malfunctioned leading to a stoppage of play during seventh over of India's 305-run chase against England last evening.
First, the lights went off from 6.15 PM till 6.20 PM, and just as when Mahmood ran in the lights went off again. This time, it did not turn back on till 6.45 PM, leading to a cumulative stoppage of around 30 minutes.
It is understood that the generator that supplies power to the particular floodlight malfunctioned resulting in the tripping of the lights.
OCA secretary Sanjay Behara said each floodlight tower was attached with two generators.
