Cricket / Mega IPL Trade on Cards: Sanju Samson to CSK, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to RR!

Key Points
Sanju Samson likely to move to CSK in exchange for Jadeja and Curran.
Trade talks confirmed by sources, but franchises remain tight-lipped.
Deal could redefine team strategies ahead of the next IPL season.
Bhubaneswar, Nov 10: In what could be one of the most sensational trades in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, Rajasthan Royals (RR) are reportedly set to trade their captain and star wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in exchange for all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran.
According to reports, both franchises have held discussions with the players involved. However, neither CSK nor RR has officially confirmed the trade as of now.
Sanju Samson, who has been the face of Rajasthan Royals in recent seasons, could bring a fresh dynamic to CSK’s batting line-up and leadership group. With his experience, Sanju is seen as the perfect successor to MS Dhoni, who is already 44. It is very much likely that 2026 IPL could possibly be his final season.
Meanwhile, the addition of Jadeja and Curran would
significantly bolster Rajasthan’s all-round capabilities, adding depth to both
their batting and bowling departments.

As per the IPL trading regulations, both Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings are required to submit an official expression of interest to the IPL governing council, listing the three players involved in the proposed trade.
The regulations suggests that the process can only move forward once written consent is received from all players involved in the trade. Following that, the franchises may engage in further negotiations, with the final agreement subject to ratification by the governing council.
Samson and Jadeja have been long-standing pillars of their respective teams. Samson has been associated with RR for 11 seasons, while Jadeja has been a key figure at CSK since 2012, except during the 2016 and 2017 seasons when the franchise — CSK — was suspended. After IPL 2025, Samson reportedly expressed his desire for a fresh start and requested to be released by RR.

Jadeja, on the other hand, has been an integral part of CSK’s core and has played a crucial role in three of their five title triumphs. He played a crucial role, including his heroics in the final against Gujarat Titans, in CSK’s 2023 triumph.
After his exploits at the 2008 ICC U19 World Cup, where he played under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, Jadeja kicked off his IPL journey as a 19-year-old with Rajasthan Royals under the leadership of Shane Warne.
After two seasons with RR, Jadeja was suspended in 2010 by the IPL for trying to negotiate a contract with Mumbai Indians directly. After the ban, Jadeja featured for Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2011 before being bought by CSK for $2 million in 2012. And since then, he has established himself as a core member of the CSK setup alongside MS Dhoni.
Sam Curran, on the other hand, has a topsy-turvy ride in the IPL and has failed to justify his price tag. Curran has two stints with CSK — first in 2020 and 2021 seasons before being released, and later CSK resigned the Englishman ahead of 2025 season. However, he failed to live up to his potential.
If finalized, the trade would mark a rare instance of a franchise captain being swapped for two high-impact all-rounders, signalling a bold strategic shift for both teams ahead of the next IPL season.
The potential trade has already sparked intense debate among fans and analysts, with many calling it a game-changing move that could reshape the balance of power in the IPL. However, there are people who believe that Jadeja, who will be 37 in December, is not at his best in T20s. Samson, on the other hand, could be a huge asset with his experience with the willow as well behind the stumps.
With the official trade window still open, all eyes are now
on the franchises to see whether this high-stakes deal will be sealed or stall
at the negotiation table.
