New Delhi, Sep 14: Jaismine Lamboria created history by winning the first gold medal for India at the World Boxing Championships 2025. Lamboria’s victory came via a 4-1 split decision, showcasing her tactical brilliance and resilience.

The 24-year-old pugilist triumphed in the fiercely contested 57kg featherweight category, defeating Poland’s Olympic silver medallist Julia Szeremeta in a thrilling final at the M&S Bank Arena.

Jaismine earned the spot in final after winning against Venezuela’s Omailyn Alcala Cegovia in the semi-finals of the Championships.

In a World Championships where most Indians in Olympic categories have fared poorly, Jaismine has had a relatively easy path to the final and has been aided by the visual aura of her boxing.

One of the tallest boxers in her weight class, the Bhiwani boxer automatically comes with the advantages of height and reach.

Earlier this year, she also struck gold at the World Boxing Cup in Kazakhstan, further cementing her reputation as one of India’s brightest boxing talents.

Hailing from Bhiwani, Haryana, a region often dubbed India’s “Little Cuba” for its boxing legacy, Jaismine comes from a family steeped in combat sports.

Her great-grandfather, Hawa Singh, was a heavyweight boxer and two-time Asian Games gold medallist, while her grandfather was a wrestler. Trained by her uncles, both national champions, Jaismine’s rise has been nothing short of inspirational.

Her historic win was part of a strong showing by Indian women at the championships. Nupur Sheoran claimed silver in the +81kg category, and veteran Pooja Rani added a bronze to India’s tally.

With this landmark achievement, Jaismine Lamboria has not only brought glory to the nation but also inspired a new generation of athletes.
