Barabati Stadium to Host Thrilling India vs South Africa T20 Series Opener.

Cuttack, Apr 2: The iconic Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha is abuzz with excitement as it prepares to host the opening match of the India vs South Africa T20 series on December 9 this year.

Cricket enthusiasts from across the region are gearing up for a thrilling encounter between two cricketing giants. The announcement came via BCCI's official social media handle, sending fans into frenzy.

As part of South Africa's tour of India, the series will feature two Test matches, three ODIs, and five T20s. The iconic Barabati Stadium will witness the high-stakes showdown in the first of the five T20 matches.

Known for its electrifying atmosphere and passionate crowd, Barabati is expected to provide the perfect stage for players to showcase their talent and determination.

With India and South Africa both boasting strong squads, the clash promises to be nothing short of spectacular. The cricketing fraternity in Odisha is thrilled to host an international fixture, emphasising the state's growing prominence on the cricket map.

Preparations at the stadium are in full swing to ensure a seamless experience for fans and players alike. Enhanced facilities, security arrangements, and ticketing systems are being implemented to handle the massive influx of spectators.

December 9 is set to be a memorable day for cricket lovers in Odisha and beyond.

Notably, this will be the second international match at the Barabati Stadium as the iconic venue had hosted an ODI between India and England on February 9, just before the ICC Champions Trophy. India had secured a comfortable 4-wicket win with skipper Rohit Sharma scoring a spectacular century.

By the time the matchday arrives, it will be nearly three-and-a-half years since the last T20I at the venue. The Barabati Stadium had last hosted a T20I on June 12, 2022, and coincidentally, it was the same matchup – India vs South Africa.

The records, though, are not in favour of the hosts at the venue, which has hosted three T20Is. India have played South Africa twice (T20Is) at the venue, and suffered defeats on both the occasions. The only time India have registered a win at the venue, came against Sri Lanka in 2017.
