India vs England, 2nd ODI: Floodlight Failure Interrupts India Innings At Barabati Stadium

Key Points

The floodlights – one of the light towers -- started playing hide-and-seek just before the start of the seventh over of the Indian innings

India were off to a flying start before the interruption as they had reached 48 for no loss in 6.1 overs

Cuttack, Feb 9: The second ODI between India and England was interrupted Sunday due to floodlight failure at the Barabati Stadium here in Cuttack.

The floodlights – one of the light towers -- started playing hide-and-seek just before the start of the seventh over of the Indian innings. After a few minutes of delay, the match had resumed. However, the lights completely went off after just one ball in the seventh over.

India skipper Rohit Sharma was visibly upset and had a talk with the on-field umpires. After staying for a few minutes on the ground, both the Indian openers – Rohit and Shubman Gill, and the England players walked off the field in disappointment.

The interruption lasted for close to half-an-hour, which raised many eyebrows.

According to sources, Some Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) officials have stated that the floodlights had been undergoing testing for the past five days, which is a common practice at all venues. However, according to them, no issues had occurred during those five days.

India were off to a flying start before the interruption as they had reached 48 for no loss in 6.1 overs, with Rohit batting on 29 off 18 balls, and Gill on 17 off 19 balls.
