Ahmedabad, Dec 19: India sealed a 30-run victory over South Africa in the fifth and final T20I at the Narendra Modi Stadium here on Friday evening, clinching the series 3-1 with a commanding all-round performance.

Batting first, India posted a formidable 231/5, powered by half-centuries from Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya. In reply, South Africa’s chase faltered despite a fighting knock from Quinton de Kock, who struck 65 runs, and Dewald Brevis, who contributed 31.

Chakaravarthy spins a web

Leg-spinner Varun Chakaravarthy was the standout performer with the ball, claiming four wickets and breaking the backbone of South Africa’s middle order. Jasprit Bumrah provided crucial support with two wickets, ensuring the visitors never gained momentum in their chase.

South Africa’s resistance

De Kock’s fluent innings kept South Africa in contention for a while, but regular wickets at the other end meant the required run rate kept climbing. Brevis attempted to anchor the innings, but India’s disciplined bowling attack tightened the screws in the middle overs.

India’s dominance

India’s victory was built on their batting fireworks earlier in the day, with Tilak Varma’s 73 and Pandya’s blistering 63 off 38 balls setting the tone. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma provided brisk contributions at the top, while Shivam Dube’s late flourish pushed India past the 230-run mark.

Series-clinching win

The 30-run triumph not only gave India the series but also showcased their depth in both batting and bowling. With Chakaravarthy’s spin and Bumrah’s pace combining effectively, India ensured South Africa fell short despite spirited resistance.
