New Delhi, May 19: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday unveiled the squads for the upcoming Afghanistan tour, which includes a one-off Test and a three-match ODI series in June.
The announcement marked the return of senior stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to the ODI setup, while Shubman Gill was entrusted with captaincy duties across both formats.

While Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya’s participation in the ODIs remains subject to fitness clearance, the selectors have opted to rest Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja from both formats.
Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who last captained India in a Test against South Africa in Guwahati, does not feature in the ODI squad but is part of the Test team.
Gill, who continues to grow into his leadership role, will be supported by KL Rahul as vice-captain in the Test and Shreyas Iyer as vice-captain in the ODIs.

The squads reflect a blend of experience and youth, with promising talents like Gurnoor Brar, Harsh Dubey, and Manav Suthar included in the Test side. Prince Yadav, meanwhile, has earned his maiden ODI call-up.
This will be only the second Test meeting between India and
Afghanistan, the first being Afghanistan’s debut Test in Bengaluru in 2018.

The selectors have largely retained the core group from the recent ODI series against New Zealand, while also introducing fresh faces to broaden India’s bench strength.
With Gill at the helm and seasoned campaigners like Kohli and Rohit back in the fold, India’s squads reflect a balance of continuity and experimentation as the team looks ahead to long-term goals.
