IPL’s 2027 mini auction is set for December 16 in Goa, with franchises finalizing retained and released players by mid‑November as BCCI prepares the player pool for bidding.

New Delhi, Oct 18: For the 2027 Indian Premier League season, the much‑anticipated mini auction is poised to make history with its debut in Goa on December 16, sources revealed, signalling a fresh chapter for the league’s player market.

Initially, December 14 was considered, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now conveyed through WhatsApp messages to all ten franchises that the auction will be held on December 16, with a briefing scheduled for December 15.

“They just wanted to know the number of people from all ten teams who will come for the auction so that the bookings for them at the ITC Grand Hotel are initiated as quickly as possible,” sources revealed.

The timing of the auction could create a scheduling clash, as India is slated to face Sri Lanka in the second ODI at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on the same day.

The series opener on December 13, originally planned at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, is awaiting relocation due to drainage and pitch renovation work.

The Goa auction will also mark the event’s return to Indian soil after recent editions were staged in West Asia.

All ten franchises—Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Lucknow Super Giants, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Sunrisers Hyderabad—will use the mini auction to strengthen their squads following the retention and release window.

By mid‑November, franchises are expected to submit their final lists of retained and released players to the BCCI. The board will then compile the pool of players available for bidding, ensuring teams can plug gaps and recalibrate strategies ahead of the 2027 season.
