Raised by her mother, Champa Majhi, after the demise of her father, Rachana’s early life revolved around school, household chores, and farming. Sports seemed far removed from her reality—until a chance encounter changed everything.
In 2021, coordinators from Vedanta Aluminium’s archery training initiative visited her school in Lanjigarh. The sight of a compound bow fascinated Rachana, sparking a curiosity that soon transformed into passion. Enrolling in the programme gave her access to structured coaching, modern equipment, and nutrition support. Her natural calmness under pressure and quick adaptability impressed her coach, Shambhu Nath Parida, who describes her as “a rare talent with maturity beyond her age.”
Her journey from novice to champion was swift.
For her village, Rachana’s achievements are a source of pride. For her, they are proof that determination can carve extraordinary paths. The larger ecosystem has also played a vital role.
