Bhubaneswar, June 26: The 78th Senior National Aquatic Championship, hosted at the Kalinga Stadium Aquatic Centre in Bhubaneswar, will conclude today after celebrating five days of record-breaking performances and rising talent in Indian swimming.
Organised by the Swimming Federation of India, the championship is conducted from June 22 to 26, drawing over 400 elite swimmers from across the country. Odisha proudly fielded 14 participants, showcasing the state’s growing presence in national-level aquatic sports.
This year’s edition has already made waves with record-breaking performances.
Karnataka’s teenage prodigies Dhinidhi Desinghu and Shoan Ganguly have shattered national records in the women’s 200m freestyle and men’s 200m individual medley respectively. Dhinidhi, India’s youngest Olympian, clocked an impressive 2:02.97, while Shoan finished at 2:04.34, both setting new benchmarks for Indian swimming.
Adding to the excitement, Rujula S. broke the national meet record in the women’s 50m freestyle with a time of 26.36 seconds, surpassing a long-standing record.
Meanwhile, Olympians Srihari Nataraj and Sajan Prakash have continued to dominate their events, showcasing India’s growing depth in aquatic sports.
The championship has also seen strong performances from states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Delhi, with Karnataka leading the medal tally so far.
As the competition enters its final day, all eyes are on the pool for more record-breaking moments and rising stars.
