Day Of Mixed Fortune For Indian Athletes At World Athletics Bronze-Level Continental Tour

Organised by World Athletics, the Continental Tour is an annual series of track and field competitions.

Bhubaneswar, Aug 11: Indian athletes delivered a commendable performance at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meet held at Kalinga Stadium here in Bhubaneswar.

The competition featured over 150 athletes from 17 countries.

In men’s 400m, Vishal T.K. clinched gold with a timing of 45.72 seconds, securing India’s first major success at the meet while Vijaya Kumari from Karnataka topped the event with 53.40 seconds in the women's 400m race.


Odisha sprinter Laloo Prasad Bhoi failed to secure a medal in the men’s 100m sprint event, disappointing local fans. The event was dominated by Malaysia’s Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi, who clinched the gold medal with a timing of 10.35 seconds, outperforming competitors from India and Sri Lanka.

Murali Sreeshankar leapt to 8.13 meters in his final attempt, securing victory and continuing his comeback streak in the men’s long jump event.

In women’s javelin throw event, Annu Rani dominated with a throw of 62.01 meters, reinforcing her form ahead of the World Championships.

This was the first-ever World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze Level meet hosted by India.

Organised by World Athletics, the Continental Tour is an annual series of track and field competitions. It is the second tier of global meetings after the elite Diamond League.

The event provided Indian athletes an opportunity to earn valuable ranking points and give their chances of qualifying for next month’s World Athletics Championships in Tokyo a boost.
