Bhubaneswar, May 31: The 49th Sub-Junior State Basketball Championship has officially begun at Mother's Public School in Bhubaneswar on May 29, marking an exciting moment for young basketball talents across Odisha.

The event, organised by the Odisha Basketball Association, in collaboration with Mother's Public School and Odisha Basketball Academy (ODBA), is hosting the four-day tournament, which features both boys' and girls' teams from various districts.

This year’s championship has attracted significant participation, with 14 boys’ teams and 10 girls’ teams from different districts across Odisha.

Over 350 players and 20 technical officials are involved in the tournament, which will follow a league-cum-knockout format.

The championship, aiming to promote grassroots basketball and foster a competitive spirit among budding athletes, has already witnessed energetic performances from young players in the knock-out matches.

With the boys' quarter-finals and girls' semi-finals taking place today, the tournament is reaching a crucial stage as teams fight for a coveted spot in the finals on Sunday.
