Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 26: As the countdown to the 2027 ODI World Cup ticks closer, India’s cricketing roadmap takes centre stage once again.

The Men in Blue now turn their focus to a three‑match home series against West Indies, beginning Sunday at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

More than just another bilateral contest, the series offers a glimpse into India’s evolving balance between seasoned stalwarts and emerging talents, a blend that could define their campaign at the global showpiece.

The spotlight will be on stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both returning after a break since the England ODIs in mid‑July.

While Virat has largely remained in strong touch, Rohit silenced speculation about his future with a century in the third ODI against England, storming back among the runs.

India will also use the series to test their bench strength, with several top stars away defending the Asian Games gold medal. Game time will be crucial for emerging names such as Nitish Kumar Reddy, Dhruv Jurel, Ramandeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar, and Auqib Nabi.

Another point of interest will be the opportunities handed to Yashasvi Jaiswal, the third opener in the squad and back‑up to Rohit and captain Shubman Gill.

For West Indies, the series carries added significance. Having failed to qualify for the 2023 World Cup, they must prepare strongly for the qualifiers in February to secure a place at the 2027 edition.

A competitive showing against India could help them avoid the embarrassment of missing consecutive World Cups.

The second ODI will be played Wednesday at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, while the third one is slated for October 3 at the PCA International Cricket Stadium, Ground A.
