Bhubaneswar, Apr 8: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra has stepped down as the party’s Parliamentary Leader in the Upper House, formally submitting his resignation letter to BJD chief Naveen Patnaik.

The move comes at a sensitive time for the regional party, which is grappling with internal challenges following its recent loss of power in Odisha.

Patra’s resignation adds to speculation about unity within the BJD ranks, especially in the Rajya Sabha where the party has sought to maintain a strong presence.

This development coincides with the swearing-in of newly elected BJD Rajya Sabha member Santrupt Misra, who assumed office just days ago alongside other fresh entrants.
