Soro, Balasore: A festive evening turned tragic in Govindpur village under Soro police limits when a youth sustained a serious injury while bursting firecrackers during Diwali celebrations.

The victim, identified as Babu Mohanty, was reportedly lighting firecrackers in front of his house on Sunday evening when one exploded prematurely in his hand due to mishandling. The blast severely damaged his right palm, causing a partial tear.

Family members rushed Babu to the Soro Community Health Center in critical condition. After receiving initial treatment, he was referred to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital for advanced medical care.

Local authorities have once again urged citizens to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines while handling firecrackers, especially during festive occasions. The incident has sparked concern over the use of high-risk fireworks in residential areas.
