Balasore, Mar 21: A youth suffered grievous injuries after being attacked by a tusker at Banida village under Raibania area in Balasore district, early this morning.
The youth, identified as Surjakanta Barik, was working outside his house. Meanwhile, a tusker, which is believed to entered the village from the nearby forest in Jharkhand, attacked the youth. Following the attack, Surjakanta was critically injured. He was immediately rescued and rushed to hospital in Jaleswar.
According to reports, elephants from Jharkhand have been wreaking havoc in the Raibania area of Balasore district for the past few days. However, a tusker ventured into Banida area after crossing Subarnarekha river.
On being informed about the incident, forest officials reached the spot and are reportedly monitoring the movement of the elephants in the area.
