Bhubaneswar, May 15: Tension gripped the Nuagaon area under Dhauli police station limits in Bhubaneswar after a youth was allegedly chased and attacked with a sword in broad daylight over previous enmity, a source said Friday.
The injured youth was identified as Subun Dhir. He sustained serious injuries to his head and hand in the attack and was rushed to Capital Hospital for treatment.
According to the source, a group of miscreants allegedly chased Subun on the road and attacked him with sharp weapons in the Nuagaon area. The incident reportedly stemmed from a past rivalry between the two sides.
On receiving information, a PCR team and the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Dhauli Police Station immediately rushed to the spot, rescued the injured youth from the spot and shifted him to Capital Hospital for medical treatment.
The police have initiated an investigation into the incident.

The gruesome attack took place at a time when Odisha has witnessed a worrying rise in violent crimes compared to other states.
As per the latest 'Crime in India 2024' report released by the National Crime Records Bureau, Odisha recorded the highest rate of violent crimes among Indian states in 2024 at 161.6 -- significantly higher than the national average of 53.2. Crime rate is calculated as the number of crimes per one lakh population.
Odisha had registered 43,566 murder cases in 2022 and 31,749 in 2023, before the number sharply rose to 75,403 in 2024.
The report further stated that Odisha ranked fourth among the 28 states in terms of murder cases registered in 2024, with 75,403 cases, behind Bihar (1,07,303), Maharashtra (87,791) and Uttar Pradesh (85,647).
