Talcher, Nov 21: A young man was brutally attacked with sharp weapons by a group of five masked assailants near Handidhua Chhak in Talcher on Friday morning.
The victim, identified as Debasish Sahu of Ghantapada village, suffered deep injuries across his body.
According to sources, Debashish had gone to the Bajrangi Gym Centre near Handidhua Chhak for his morning workout. As he stepped out after completing his session, five unidentified youths allegedly approached him in a planned assault and attacked him with swords, knives and iron rods.
In a desperate bid to save his life, Debasish managed to break free and escape from the attackers. Residents found him lying on the roadside in a pool of blood and immediately rushed him to PMP Medical College and Hospital in Talcher.
Doctors found severe injuries on his head, back, arms and other parts of the body. After the primary treatment, he was later shifted to Angul District Headquarters Hospital for advanced treatment.

Family members have alleged that even two hours after the incident, no police team from Colliery Police Station had reached the hospital or contacted them regarding the assault.
