Bhubaneswar, Jan 31: Tension gripped the capital city after a youth was brutally attacked on AIIMS Road here in the early hours of Saturday. The incident occurred when the victim, identified as Chintu from Patrapada area, was returning home after watching a Jatra (Odia Opera), locals said.

According to eyewitness, a group of miscreants intercepted Chintu and assaulted him with sharp weapons, leaving the road stained with blood. Locals rushed to his aid and informed the police, who later shifted the injured youth to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. His condition is reported to be critical.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the attack may have been triggered by past enmity. Police registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the culprits. Security has been tightened in the area to prevent further unrest.

The incident triggered concern among residents about rising street violence in Bhubaneswar. Police said that strict action will be taken against those involved.
