Crime in Odisha / Youth Attacked in Bhubaneswar Over Extortion Demand; Accused Arrested

Bhubaneswar, Sept 19: A youth was stabbed in Bhubaneswar’s Khandagiri area after refusing to pay Rs5,000 extortion money demanded by local miscreants, police said on Saturday.
The key accused, identified as Amiya Ranjan Parija alias Tiki, allegedly attacked the victim with a knife when he refused to pay. The youth sustained injuries on his hand, face, and back.
The victim was rushed to Capital Hospital in a bloodied state. His mother, who tried to save him, was also assaulted and robbed of her gold chain.
The miscreants vandalised a mobile shop before fleeing as locals gathered at the spot. Acting on a complaint, Khandagiri police arrested Tiki and seized the knife used in the attack. Police said he has five prior criminal cases registered against him.

✨Another accused remains absconding, and efforts are underway to trace him. The arrested accused has been forwarded to court, while further investigation is underway, police said.
