Bhubaneswar, July 30: Mahanade swelled at different places with the year's first flood water, released from the Hirakud Dam through 20 sluice gates, reaching Mundali and flowing downstream.
According to the information, the flood water, released from Hirakud Dam on Saturday evening, reached Mundali barrage at around 4 am Tuesday. The barrage released 4,10,248 cusec water downstream by 2 pm and increased the quantum to 5 lakh cusec by 5 pm.
People living in villages along the Mahanadi and its branch rivers in the Cuttack district are in a state of fear now.
The water level of Jalaka River is also increasing. It was flowing at 6.32 meters at Mathani where the danger level is 6.50 meters.
Meanwhile, the SRC has stated that the situation is under control. The water level of Mahanadi has risen due to incessant rains in the upper catchment area of Hirakud Dam. Similarly, the situation in Subarnarekha, Brahmani and Subarnarekha is under control. The water level of Baitarani has declined at Akhuapada.

✨Development Commissioner and Water Resources Department Principal Secretary Anu Garh reviewed the flood situation on Thursday.
The Meteorological Department predicted another cyclonic circle in the Bay of Bengal tomorrow. By its impact, the quantum of rain will increase from tomorrow. Heavy rain is likely to occur in seven districts- Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Cuttack- in the next 24 hours. The weather office has issued a yellow warning to these districts.
