Bhubaneswar, June 1: In a landmark announcement aimed at boosting dairy farming in Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi declared a significant increase in milk procurement rates and new financial support initiatives for dairy farmers during the state-level celebration of World Milk Day.
As part of the revised scheme, dairy farmers under the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation (OMFED) will receive an additional ₹3 per liter of milk, benefiting around 2.5 lakh farmers. To ease the financial burden on consumers, the government will also bear ₹2 per liter of the increased price for bulk buyers.
Additionally, the Chief Minister introduced an accident insurance scheme for OMFED farmers, offering ₹1 lakh compensation in case of accidental death. The government further emphasized its commitment to animal welfare by allocating ₹10.5 crore to registered goshalas for the care of stray and abandoned cattle.
During the event, the Chief Minister unveiled three new dairy products—OMFED Balti Dahi, A2 Milk, and A2 Ghee—enhancing the market for indigenous dairy products. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to doubling milk production in the state within five years, a goal backed by the ‘Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Yojana,’ which has already provided ₹71 crore in financial aid to 3 lakh dairy farmers.
