Bhubaneswar, Oct 8: Odisha Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan has replayed strongly to the opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) over the change of colour of the Government buildings in the state.

Reacting to the BJD's question over the change of paint, Harichandan said Tuesday that one should look at own works before questioning or pointing a finger at someone.

"Before questioning, LoP Naveen Patnaik and his team should answer that why they had changed the colour of the Government buildings," countered Harichandan, who also holds the Department of law and excise.

"It was BJD who first changed the paint of Government buildings to green. I don't think there was any necessity to change the colour. They should have continued with the previous colour," added Prithviraj Harichandan.

The Works Minister said it is quite painful for them -- BJD -- to see the Government buildings without green paint. "So can they answer why they had changed the colour, before asking others about such move?"

Harichandan explained that every year after the rainy season, Government buildings require repair and maintenance. "And repainting is a part of the maintainance work," the Work Minister asserted.

"Therefore, it has been decided to use the same colour the Government buildings had been painted before BJD made the change," Prithviraj Harichandan concluded.

Earlier, the BJP government in Odisha has decided to change the colour of government buildings and offices across the state to shades of orange and red, officials said Monday.

According to the officials, the exterior walls will be painted orange with red borders.

Works Department Special Secretary Lakshmi Kanta Padhi has reportedly written a letter Monday to the engineer-in-chief of different wings, MD of the Odisha Bridge & Construction Corporation Ltd (OB&CC) and all chief engineers under the department in this regard.

Notably, the government buildings in Odisha, currently, do not sport a uniform colour.
