Keonjhar, July 15: A woman reportedly swept away near Siapada village in Keonjhar district following a sudden surge in the Kushei river, triggered by the opening of the second gate of Remal Dam.

The incident occurred early Tuesday morning, prompting an immediate response from local authorities.

According to reports, the woman was near the riverbank when the water level rose abruptly, catching her off guard. The powerful current carried her downstream before anyone could intervene.

On being informed, fire service teams from Ghasipura reached the spot and launched an intensive search operations along the river stretch.

Despite hours of effort, the woman remains untraced as of Tuesday evening.

While the rescue efforts are underway, the district officials, on the other hand, have assured that all necessary resources are being deployed to locate the missing woman and have urged people to stay away from riverbanks during high-flow periods.
