Vigilance Trap / Woman Police Inspector Held For Taking Rs 20,000 Bribe In Koraput

Koraput, Dec 18: Vigilance officials on Thursday arrested a
woman Police Inspector posted in Odisha’s Koraput district for allegedly
demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a relative of an accused
person to facilitate submission of the case diary in court for bail, officials
said.

According to the Vigilance department, Sukma Hansdah,
Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Dasmantpur police station, was apprehended while
receiving the bribe in exchange for submitting a case diary to the court. The
accused in the case had been remanded to judicial custody, and the court had
sought the case diary as part of the bail proceedings.
Vigilance officials said Hansdah, who was also the
investigating officer, allegedly demanded the bribe to facilitate the
submission of the case diary, prompting the relative of the accused to approach
the anti-corruption agency.

✨Acting on the complaint, vigilance officers laid a trap and
recovered the tainted money from the accused cop.

Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were conducted
at two premises linked to Hansdah in an effort to trace any disproportionate
assets or documents related to the case. Officials said the searches were
ongoing and further investigation would determine whether additional assets had
been concealed.
A case has been registered at the Koraput Vigilance Police
Station under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment)
Act, 2018.
Further investigation is underway, and the vigilance
department is expected to submit its findings to the competent court after
completing the inquiry, an official said.
