Berhampur, Feb 9: A woman was allegedly killed by in-laws for failing to meet their dowry demand at New Gurundi village under the Khallikote police station limits in Ganjam district.
The matter came to the fore when the parents of the deceased woman complained to the police.
According to the information, In 2019, Bhagyadhar Sahu, son of Nabin Sahu of Gurunthi village, married Aarti, daughter of Narayan Kochiyari of Subalaya village.
Arati's father works as a labourer and her mother works as an MDM helper in a school. Her husband works in the Army outside the state. According to the parents of the deceased, a few days after the marriage, Aarti's mother-in-law, father-in-law, and sister-in-law used to torture the girl demanding more dowry.

✨On hearing the news of Aarti's death, her father Narayan and mother Sanjukta rushed to the spot and found her body lying on the floor.
On receiving information, police reached the spot, seized the dead body, and started an investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased have demanded justice. Due to their protest, Arti's body was lying for eight hours. However, the police, after the preliminary investigation, sent the body for post-mortem.
Police said the cause behind the death will be ascertained once the post-mortem report comes in.
