Bank Fraud / Woman Loses Rs6.3 Lakh From Bank Account in Odisha’s Baripada

Baripada, Sept 7: A woman on Monday alleged that around Rs 6.3 lakh has mysteriously disappeared from her two accounts in Bandhan Bank’s Badabazar branch at Baripada of Mayurbhanj district in Odisha.

The Complaint

The complainant, identified as Ashtami Mahakud of Chandua Ambapunja village, a widow, said that she had deposited Rs6 lakh in a fixed deposit and another Rs2 lakh in her savings account in the bank. Shockingly, she now finds only Rs1.7 lakh remaining across both accounts.

Missing Funds

According to her statement, the remaining Rs6.3 lakh has vanished without her knowledge or authorization. The matter has raised concerns about possible lapses in banking security and customer protection.

Wider Concerns

The incident has triggered unease among local account holders, who fear similar breaches. Questions are being raised about the accountability of financial institutions in safeguarding vulnerable customers, particularly widows and senior citizens.

Seeking Justice

Mahakud said that she will lodge a formal complaint at the local police station, demanding justice and accountability. She hopes authorities will investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure her lost savings are recovered.
