Talcher, July 1: A woman was killed while her son sustained critical injuries after the scooter they were travelling was hit by a speeding truck near Greengrass Stadium in Talcher this morning.

According to reports, the mother-son duo was reportedly on their way to school when the incident took place.

The truck struck the scooter from behind, killing the mother on the spot, while her son sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. The identities of the victims are yet to be officially confirmed.

On being informed, police reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, efforts are on to trace the truck and its driver, who allegedly fled the scene.

Authorities are urging commuters to exercise caution, especially during school hours when roads are busy with children and parents.
