Berhampur, Aug 11: A 34-year-old woman was brutally murdered while her 10-year-old daughter sustained critical injuries in a suspected knife attack inside their rented home at Sriman Nagar under Nimakhandi police station on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Gayatri Swain, while her daughter, Nilam is stated to be in critical condition.

According to reports, the incident came to fore after Gayatri was found in a pool of blood while Nilam was found injured beside her mother.

On being informed, police rushed to the scene and rescued the woman's minor daughter to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Notably, Gayatri had visited her brother’s house in Hanjilikatu to celebrate Raksha Bandhan and returned home on Sunday evening.

The incident has triggered widespread panic and outrage in the locality.

Senior police officials including the SDPO and IIC have reached the spot and an investigation has been initiated. Authorities stated that the motive behind the murder will be revealed once the accused is apprehended.
