Bari, Aug 20: Flood distress continued in Bari area of Jajpur district as a seriously ill woman had to be carried on a makeshift cot for nearly 2 km to reach the main road after an ambulance could not reach her village because of the strong floodwater current, a source said on Thursday.
The Brahmani river's water level has been gradually receding, but several areas of Bari remain cut off from road connectivity, the source informed.
The incident was reported from Dihasahi village under Balibili panchayat in Bari block.
According to the source, Hemalata Samal suddenly fell ill, following which her family contacted an ambulance.
However, the ambulance could not reach the village because of the strong floodwater current. With no other option, family members carried Hemalata on a cot on their shoulders for around 2 km to the main road so that she could be taken to hospital.
The incident highlights the difficulties faced by residents of flood-hit areas in accessing emergency medical services even as the river's water level recedes.

A similar incident was reported from flood-hit Kendrapada district on August 18, when Fire Services personnel rescued an ASHA worker after she suffered a heart attack.
Shantilata Majhi, an ASHA worker from Ghagara Diha village under Kendrapada block, reportedly suffered a heart attack, following which her family alerted the Fire Services personnel.
As floodwater had affected access to the village, firefighters reached the area by power boat and rescued Shantilata. She was subsequently taken to Indupur Community Health Centre for treatment.
