Jajpur, Jan 11: In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman and her eight-day-old infant son were abandoned in the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) by their family members this morning here.  

The woman has been identifed as Dolly Mallick the wife of Chandan Mallick of Ketuapala Nagamatha village under Desahi Gram Panchayat (GP) of Ali block in Kendrapada district. 

Daughter of Rankanidhi Mallick, Dolly is originally a resident of Ghatkul village of  Madhusudanpur GP under Binjharpur police station limits in Jajpur district. 

According to the information, she had married Chandan in 2021. She delivered her son on January 3, 2023. 

At first her husband left her and this morning her mother also abandoned her.

"I saw a woman sitting and wailing with an infant in her arms. On asking her she told me that she was abandoned by her family members including her husband and parents after admitting her in the hospital. People here have given her some food to eat as she is a nursing mother," said Sraddha Das, an onlooker. 

"My husband left me and when I called him he said that he will not come back and will marry another woman. There was some disturbances between us following which I was staying in my maternal house. He admitted me in the hospital and abandoned me thereafter," said Dolly. 

Police rescued the woman and sent her to One stop centre.
