Rayagada, Apr 22: A tragic incident unfolded in Rayagada district’s Padmapur police jurisdiction, where a man was brutally attacked by a mob on suspicion of practicing witchcraft.

The victim, identified as Bhairaba Sahu, aged 50, succumbed to the injuries sustained during the attack.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Padmapur police officers rushed to the scene to investigate. However, during their inquiry, the mob turned violent, targeting the investigating officer as well.

In connection with the attack, Padmapur police have detained over 20 individuals suspected of involvement. A special investigative team has been deployed to the site, and weapons used in the attack, including axes and sticks, have been seized.

The police have arrested a total of 28 individuals and are continuing their investigation to uncover further details about the incident.

This tragic event underscores the urgent need for awareness and education to prevent such acts of violence rooted in superstition.
