Bhubaneswar, Aug 31: To celebrate National Sports Day, Bhubaneswar witnessed an energetic and inspiring cycle rally organized jointly by the Sports Department, Odisha Cycling Association, Sports Authority of India (SAI), and the Directorate of Sports and Youth Services (DSYS).
The event was held in alignment with the Central Government’s “Sunday on Cycle” initiative, promoting fitness and sustainable mobility.
The rally kicked off from the iconic Kalinga Stadium and proceeded towards Damana Square, before looping back to the stadium. Hundreds of cyclists, including young athletes, sports enthusiasts, and officials, participated with enthusiasm, turning the streets of Bhubaneswar into a vibrant trail of motion and motivation.
The rally was the concluding event of the three-day Sports Day celebrations held across Odisha from August 29 to 31, commemorating the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.

The theme for this year’s celebration, “Sport to Promote Peaceful Societies,” resonated through the rally’s spirit of unity and wellness.
Odisha’s Sports Minister, Suryabanshi Suraj, graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his address, he emphasized the importance of integrating sports into daily life and praised the participants for embracing fitness and community engagement. “Cycling is not just a sport — it’s a lifestyle that promotes health, sustainability, and togetherness,” he said.
The event also aimed to raise awareness about physical activity
and encourage citizens to dedicate at least one hour daily to fitness, echoing
the Fit India Movement’s goals.
