Bhubaneswar, May 28: The monsoon has officially entered Odisha, marking the beginning of the rainy season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that favourable atmospheric conditions have enabled the advance of monsoon winds into parts of southern Odisha.

Due to an active low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, monsoon showers have intensified across several districts. Weather forecasts suggest that June may see above-normal rainfall across the state. Additionally, the low-pressure area is expected to move northward within the next 24 hours, potentially developing into a depression.

As a result, various regions are already experiencing cloudy skies and moderate to heavy showers. The IMD has issued an orange alert for five districts — Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Cuttack, Koraput, and Rayagada — warning of potential thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been announced for the remaining districts, cautioning against adverse weather conditions.

Alongside the rain, wind speeds ranging from 40 to 50 km/h are expected in coastal and interior regions. Due to rough sea conditions, fishermen have been strictly advised against venturing into the ocean.

The Odisha government has urged residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions as the monsoon sets in. Authorities are monitoring the situation to ensure preparedness against potential flooding and waterlogging. With showers likely to continue until at least 31st, residents should brace for wet and stormy weather ahead.
