Key Points

Rainfall and gusty winds to impact several districts, with advisories issued for residents.

Bhubaneswar, Apr 1: Odisha is bracing for a change in weather as light to moderate rainfall, coupled with gusty winds, is expected to sweep through the state.

According to the latest reports from the meteorological department, a trough over South Chhattisgarh has started influencing Odisha’s climate, causing a 1-2°C dip in temperatures since Monday.

Districts like Nuapada, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri are expected to witness scattered rainfall Tuesday, with winds gusting at speeds of 30-40 km/h.

Yellow alert has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Sonepur, and parts of Kalahandi for April 2. Residents in these areas are advised to remain cautious of lightning and gusty winds ranging from 40-50 km/h.

Further, on April 3, the risk escalates with widespread rainfall and winds speeding up to 50-60 km/h, prompting yellow warnings in Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Koraput, and nearby districts.

Coastal Odisha may also see gusts and thunderstorms by April 4, with scattered rainfall predicted through April 7 in southern districts.

Local authorities urge residents in affected areas to stay informed about changing weather patterns and take necessary precautions. Farmers have been advised to protect their crops from rainfall and wind.
