Weather Alert: Kalbaishakhi Storm Likely To Hit Odisha, Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected

Bhubaneswar, May 17: The Odisha Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for the next 24 hours, warning of severe thunderstorms and strong winds. The Kalbaishakhi storm, known for its rapid and intense weather shifts, is expected to cause disruption across multiple districts.
In the next 24 hours, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nuapada, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh are expected to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and winds ranging between 50-60 km/h.
Meanwhile, the coastal belt and adjoining districts — Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal — have been placed under a Yellow Alert, indicating moderate rainfall and winds between 40-50 km/h.
In the past 24 hours, Kandhamal's Khajuripada recorded the highest rainfall of 94.4 mm, while Sambalpur and Sundargarh experienced the highest temperature of 41.2°C.
