Bhubaneswar, Sep 2: A fresh low-pressure system has formed over the northwestern Bay of Bengal, and is expected to intensify within the next 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The system is likely to move west-northwestward across Odisha, triggering widespread rainfall across the state for the next five days.
Under the influence of this active cyclonic circulation, several districts are under weather alerts. Red warnings have been issued for Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda, indicating the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds reaching 30–40 km/h.
An orange alert has been issued for Puri, Khordha, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Cuttack, Koraput, and Nabarangpur, forecasting heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm activity. Meanwhile, yellow alerts remain in place for other districts, including Balangir, Nayagarh, Boudh, and Malkangiri.

✨The IMD has also warned of rough sea conditions due to the intensifying system. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea areas or along the Odisha coast until further notice, as squally weather and high waves are expected.
Meteorologists have cautioned that the rainfall may lead to waterlogging, infrastructure damage, and disruption in transportation. Local administrations have been asked to remain vigilant and activate disaster response protocols.
