“We Work for Nationalism, Not Just Power”, Says Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi

Key Points

CM Majhi affirms RSS association and calls nationalism central to his ideology.

Promises industrial growth and cites POSCO revival as a major achievement. Criticizes previous government’s lack of focus on employment and development.

Bhubaneswar, Sep 6: In a candid conversation with a national news daily, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi shared his views on governance, national identity, industrial development, and political legacy.

Responding to questions about his ideological leanings, CM Majhi stated, “Anyone living in India is a Hindu and an Indian. We work for nationalism. BJP is a large organisation, and whether we are in power or not, working here is fulfilling.”

He acknowledged his association with the RSS, saying, “I am a swayamsevak (volunteer). Many who have worked with ABVP are now in BJD. There’s no issue in working across organisations.”

Speaking on industrial development, the Odisha Chief Minister criticized previous governments for lacking the will to act. “They didn’t focus on industry. I come from Keonjhar and have strong intent. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, I brought POSCO to Odisha. That’s an achievement,” he said. He emphasized his commitment to transforming Odisha into an industrial hub.

CM Majhi also addressed comparisons with former CM Naveen Patnaik. “People need jobs and projects. We invited companies and initiated projects. Naveen Patnaik didn’t prioritize these areas — we are doing it now,” he asserted.

When asked about allegations that schemes named after Biju Patnaik were discontinued, Majhi clarified, “We respect Biju Patnaik. He was a great son (Baraputra) of Odisha. No scheme in his name will be stopped. But Naveen Patnaik must answer why he discontinued several projects named after his father.”

The interview highlighted CM Majhi’s vision for a “New Odisha” rooted in development, nationalism, and inclusive governance.
