Bhubaneswar, Nov 19: Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla in Odisha has once again demonstrated its engineering brilliance as its student team, VeerRacerss Electric, secured second place at the prestigious Formula Imperial 2025 competition held in Coimbatore, officials said on Wednesday.

 

Organized by Jansons Institute of Technology, the event witnessed participation from 28 teams across India, including premier institutions like IITs and NITs.

 

The VSSUT team stood out as the only representative from Odisha, making their achievement even more remarkable. Competing in the Electric Vehicle (EV) category, they clinched second place among 16 EV teams, bringing pride to the state and their university.

 

The Formula EV racing car was designed and built by 60 dedicated students, who balanced their academic schedules with long hours of innovation and teamwork. The car, powered by a 72-volt battery, can achieve speeds of up to 120 km/h, with a cruising capability of 80 km/h. Impressively, many of its parts were self-designed by the students, showcasing their technical ingenuity.

VSSUT Vice-Chancellor Deepak Kumar Sahu praised the students for their relentless efforts, calling the achievement a milestone in the university’s journey toward technological excellence. Team captain Sai Shankar Pattnayak highlighted the challenges faced during the design and testing phases, emphasizing the collective spirit that drove the team forward.

Student Adyasha Deb expressed pride in contributing to the project, while Technical Society Vice-President Dr. Trupti Ranjan Mahapatra noted that the success reflects the institution’s commitment to nurturing innovation.

 

This victory builds on last year’s performance, when VSSUT students secured third place in the 2024 edition. Their consistent rise in rankings underscores the growing strength of Odisha’s technical talent in national competitions.

 

With this achievement, VSSUT has not only showcased its engineering prowess but also positioned itself as a hub for future-ready innovations in electric mobility.
