Sambalpur, Jan 10: In a remarkable outreach initiative,
doctors from Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research
(VIMSAR), Burla, extended free healthcare services to villagers in Dhanakauda
block of Sambalpur district, locals said on Saturday.
The medical team
visited Kalamati Panchayat on Friday, offering consultations, medicines, and
essential supplies to hundreds of residents who otherwise struggle to access
hospital facilities, they added.
According to the sources, the camp was organised by the SSG
Society (UG) of VIMSAR with support from Kalamati Sarpanch Dr. Sushma Sahu.
Over 18 specialists and Assistant Professors from 14 Departments, including Obstetrics
And Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Surgery, Medicine, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics,
Nephrology, Dentistry, Dermatology, ENT and Kidney care, participated in the
initiative.
Doctors conducted health check-ups for blood pressure,
diabetes and other common ailments, distributing free medicines to patients.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Shankar Ramchandani,
Vice-President of SSG Society, said the effort was aimed at reaching those
unable to travel to Burla for treatment. Society President Malay Ranjan Sadangi
added that such camps would continue in the future, ensuring healthcare reaches
the most vulnerable sections of society.
The doctors emphasised that their mission was not limited to
hospital walls but extended to villages where access to healthcare remains a
challenge. By dedicating their holidays to community service, the VIMSAR team
demonstrated a commitment to bridging the gap between rural populations and
modern medical facilities.
The initiative has been widely appreciated by local
residents, who hailed the doctors for their compassion and dedication. With
plans to replicate similar camps in other villages, VIMSAR’s outreach programme
is expected to make a significant impact on rural healthcare delivery in
western Odisha.
