Vigilance Cracks Down on Irrigation Engineer As Searches Underway

Bhubaneswar, Aug 18: In a major crackdown on alleged corruption, Odisha Vigilance officials launched simultaneous raids at eight locations linked to Surendra Behera, Superintending Engineer of the Irrigation Division, Angul.
The operation was initiated following allegations of acquisition of disproportionate assets (DA) by Behera.
The raids, conducted under search warrants issued by the Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh, are currently underway across Bhubaneswar, Rourkela, Sundargarh, Angul, and Ganjam.
A high-level team comprising 3 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), 10 Inspectors, 4 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs), and other supporting staff are executing the searches.

According to sources, the properties under scrutiny include three multi-storey houses in Sundargarh, two multi-storey houses in Gopabandhu Nagar in Rourkela, two flats in Bhubaneswar’s Ghatikia, ancestral house and in-laws’ residence in Ganjam, as well as government quarters and office premises in Angul
The Vigilance team is examining documents, assets, and other materials to assess the extent of disproportionate wealth allegedly amassed by Behera. The operation is part of Odisha Vigilance’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption in public service.
Officials have indicated that the searches are still in progress and further details will be shared upon completion of the investigation.
