Jharsuguda, May 17: The Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ) of the Special POCSO Court has pronounced a verdict in a rape case, delivering justice within 55 days.

The case was filed on March 23, and the accused was arrested and presented in court by the police. Within 15 days, the investigation was completed, and the charge sheet was submitted.

Based on the testimony of 27 witnesses and supporting evidence, the hearing process commenced on April 19. After thorough proceedings, the court sentenced the accused to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000.

The incident occurred on March 21 when the accused allegedly took the victim to a secluded location in Brajarajnagar on a motorcycle and engaged in sexual misconduct. Following this, the victim’s father lodged an official complaint on March 23, citing unnatural sexual assault.

Further investigations revealed that the accused had previously engaged in similar acts with a minor victim, leading to additional charges. The Brajarajnagar police, after a thorough probe, filed the charge sheet on April 8, and judicial proceedings continued from April 19.

On Saturday, the court has formally announced the final verdict, sentencing the accused to rigorous imprisonment for 25 years along with a monetary fine.
