Bhubaneswar, Sept 4: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, is making waves in rural skill development through its VeDakshata Skill Training Centre in Bileimunda village, in Odisha’s Sundargarh district. Since its launch in December 2024, the initiative has successfully trained and placed 87 rural youth in jobs across India, marking a significant milestone in Vedanta’s mission to foster sustainable livelihoods.
Implemented in partnership with LearnNet Skills Limited—a joint venture of SchoolNet India and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC)—VeDakshata offers free training in three trades: sewing machine operation, electrical maintenance, and food & beverage service. These industry-relevant courses are tailored to empower youth from communities surrounding Vedanta’s coal mining projects in Ghogharpalli, Jamkhani, and Kuraloi.
The impact is already visible: 36 Assistant Electricians, 31 Sewing Machine Operators, and 20 Food & Beverage Service stewards have secured employment with reputed organizations. These placements have not only boosted household incomes but also helped integrate rural youth into the formal workforce, enhancing their confidence and social mobility.
