Project aligns with key UN Sustainable Development Goals
Bhubaneswar, July 15: In a powerful stride toward sustainable rural development, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has installed 96 solar-powered streetlights across 21 villages in Kalahandi and Rayagada districts. These installations mark a significant milestone in improving infrastructure in previously unlit and underserved communities.
Benefiting over 5,000 residents, the solar lighting initiative is designed to provide dependable nighttime illumination in key locations such as village entrances, community centres, bus stands, marketplaces, schools, and main roads. By replacing darkness with energy-efficient lighting, the initiative enhances safety, mobility, and the overall quality of life.
This effort is part of Vedanta’s larger commitment to install 150 solar streetlights throughout the region. It aligns with the company’s vision of inclusive growth and environmental stewardship, reinforcing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—particularly SDG 7 (Affordable & Clean Energy), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities & Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
