Bhubaneswar, June 14: In a landmark step toward environmental sustainability, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, has launched a mega plantation drive titled “Mo Gachha Mo Parivar” (My Tree, My Family) in Odisha’s Kalahandi and Rayagada districts.
The campaign, unveiled on the occasion of World Environment Day 2025, aims to plant over 1,00,000 fruit-bearing saplings, creating both ecological and economic benefits for rural communities.
The initiative is expected to positively impact over 30,000 families by introducing high-value fruit species such as Mango, Guava, Jackfruit, and Moringa. These trees were carefully selected to enhance biodiversity, improve soil retention, and contribute to climate resilience, while simultaneously generating livelihood opportunities for locals.
The drive commenced with a community-led plantation event at Balabhadrapur village and Vedanta’s plant premises, with participation from over 600 people. Employees, senior management, school children, government officials, and community members came together in a shared commitment to environmental conservation. The event reinforced the plantation’s symbolic message, “Mo Gachha, Mo Parivar,” highlighting the significance of trees as integral members of every household.

✨Beyond beautifying the landscape, this initiative is expected to offset approximately 1.5 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions over the lifetime of the trees, contributing significantly to India's climate goals. In addition to improving green cover, it aims to empower local communities by fostering sustainable farming and income-generating activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, CEO of Vedanta Alumina Business, stated, “At Vedanta Lanjigarh, sustainability is not just a responsibility—it’s a way of life. Through ‘Mo Gachha Mo Parivar,’ we are sowing seeds of hope, unity, and prosperity. We are proud to work alongside the community toward a greener and more resilient future.”
This initiative reflects Vedanta’s long-term commitment to environmental conservation, aligning with its broader mission to scale sustainability efforts across India. With growing participation and awareness, the campaign is poised to expand beyond regional boundaries in the years to come.
