Viksit Odisha / Vedanta Lanjigarh Illuminates Rural Kalahandi With Solar Energy Projects

Key Points
Project Roshan and Project Jyoti align with UN SDGs for clean energy and climate action.
Bhubaneswar, Oct 23: In a transformative stride toward sustainable rural development, Vedanta Aluminium has launched two impactful clean energy initiatives—Project Roshan and Project Jyoti—bringing solar-powered lighting to thousands across Lanjigarh’s peripheral villages in Kalahandi district.
As India’s largest aluminium producer, Vedanta is leveraging its industrial leadership to foster community wellbeing. Project Roshan is installing 310 solar streetlights, including 60 high-mast units, across public spaces in rural Kalahandi. Already, 91 lights have been deployed in 25 locations, improving safety and mobility for over 5,000 residents. Once completed, the initiative will benefit more than 15,000 people.
Complementing this, Project Jyoti targets households in remote villages with unreliable electricity. So far, 398 homes across eight villages have received solar home lights, with plans to reach 1,500 homes in total. These installations extend productive hours after sunset, reduce dependence on grid electricity, and enhance security—especially for women and children.
