Vedanta Aluminium’s Mobile Health Services Reach Over 50 Remote Villages In Odisha

Vedanta Aluminium has extended its Mobile Health Unit (MHU) services to as many as 52 remote villages across Odisha, positively impacting more than 35,000 residents.

Bhubaneswar, July 7: In a landmark initiative to bridge healthcare gaps in underserved regions, Vedanta Aluminium has extended its Mobile Health Unit (MHU) services to as many as 52 remote villages across Odisha, positively impacting more than 35,000 residents, Officials said on Monday.


Operating in the districts of Rayagada, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda, the company has conducted over 2,000 free health camps in the past two years.


Each MHU is staffed with a qualified doctor, nurse, lab technician, and pharmacist, and equipped with diagnostic kits and essential medicines. The camps offer free medical check-ups, malaria screenings, blood sugar tests, and medicine distribution. Common ailments addressed include hypertension, anaemia, respiratory infections, diabetes, and skin conditions like scabies.


In Kalahandi’s Thuamul Rampur block, the initiative covers 21 villages, while Rayagada’s Kashipur block benefits 14 villages. Sundargarh’s Hemgir block sees outreach in 11 villages, and Jharsuguda’s Lakhanpur block includes 6 villages. Beyond treatment, the program emphasizes preventive care through awareness sessions on menstrual hygiene, breastfeeding, tobacco cessation, deworming, and chronic disease management.

Local health officials have praised the initiative. Nitesh Jha, Medical Officer of Thuamul Rampur, said, “I appreciate Vedanta’s proactive role in community healthcare interventions in remote areas. By fulfilling the healthcare needs of the residents, they have taken a significant step towards creating a future that is healthier, making sure that every individual has access to basic medical care.”

 

Dr. Netrananda Nayak, Head of Kashipur CHC, added, “I would like to commend Vedanta for providing quality healthcare at the doorstep through its Mobile Health Unit, in the Kashipur region. This vital initiative will not only enhance medical access but also raise health awareness, fostering a healthier community.”
