Rayagada, Oct 23: Vedanta Aluminium has organised a two-day eye screening camp in Laxmipur block of Rayagada district, providing comprehensive eye examinations to nearly 200 residents from nearby villages. The camp was conducted through the company’s Kodingamali operations, in partnership with LV Prasad Eye Institute, Rayagada.

Held at the Community Health Centre in Laxmipur and Odiapentha Gram Panchayat, the initiative aimed to improve access to preventive eye care in rural and remote areas. During the screening, several beneficiaries were diagnosed with cataract and pterygium-related conditions, which can cause vision impairment if left untreated.

Patients requiring advanced treatment were counselled and referred for further care. Those diagnosed with cataract and pterygium will receive surgical treatment at LV Prasad Eye Institute in Rayagada, while beneficiaries with refractive errors will be provided corrective spectacles.

The camp was inaugurated by former Koraput Member of Parliament Jhina Hikaka in the presence of the Community Health Centre in-charge, medical staff, the Sarpanch of Odiapentha Gram Panchayat, community representatives and local residents.

A beneficiary from Kenduwada village, Dunguru Mandinga, said the camp helped him receive cataract surgery after living with poor eyesight for a long time. He said the intervention had restored his vision and brought renewed confidence to carry out daily activities.

Vedanta Aluminium said it continues to undertake healthcare initiatives across its operational regions, including health camps, awareness programmes, maternal and child healthcare support and specialised medical interventions.
